Fund in aid of Simshar victims' families launched
A fund in aid of the families of the victims of the Simshar tragedy has been launched by the Resources Ministry and the fisheries cooperatives.
The government and the cooperatives will be contributing. The donations will be over and above assistance which the government will give to the families.
Contributions may also be made by the public in Bank of Valletta account 40017401487 or HSBC account 089020028050.
Resources Minister George Pullicino again praised the fishermen's community for their solidarity with the families.

Although there was 4 victims, Simon rescue, had a little happy ending. This would make a great but sad TV movie. While profits can help the family's involved.Besides the donations and government assistance. Although Simon is a strong person, I'm not sure if he would want to continue to fish.He can use all the help. It's sound like he wasn't the only hero involved.

I am a young boy who heard of this tragic accident and I am pleased that they are doing this to help their relatives and I hope that the boy will be found and I am sorry for their family.

@Francesca Abela
I asked the same questions as they are the essence of life at see, but , I have to disagree on one thing , whatever happened the skipper could not have had a cool head, his father could not swim and he had young Theo with him too so I can just imagine what was going through his head

How much did the Goverment or cooperatives fork out for this fund?
The Community Chest fund has an obligation to give aid to these families,that is why the citizens very rightly donated millions of euros during the xmas period.

Whilst fully sympathising with the victims and their families of this tradgedy, one has to ask the following questions:
Were there lifejackets aboard the boat? if the boat burned for 5 hrs there was ample time to collect said lifejackets if they were on board, were there any explosives on board the boat?
Was there a liferaft?? both lifejackets and inflatable liferaft should have floated free of the boat. These are questions that need answering. Did skipper abandon ship in a panic when a cool head could have recovered essential items for survival???
