Who's paying for the transport strike? (1)
As I opened my mail late Saturday morning I found a request from the St Julians local council to pay a traffic fine of €23.29 for parking on a double yellow line (the little area adjacent to the City Of London Pub, obstructing nobody, while I sipped the best cappuccino in the land at Café Ole ).
The camera must have caught me there on July 16 at 10.27 a.m. This was the same day that I had to cancel a radio talk in Żabbar because I had been stuck at the Marsa roundabout leading to the Addolorata cemetery as the main artery leading to the Cottonera and Birżebbuġa/Luqa areas was blocked illegally by buses/mini-buses etc. and the day after hundreds of buses/taxis caused mayhem in St Julians itself, having been parked illegally during the recent strike. Is the St Julians local council going to ask them to pay €23.29 too?
Is the Marsa local council going to demand the payment of €23.29?
Is there a budding lawyer in this country keen enough to fight my case when I ask the St Julians local council why I should be fined and these other are not?
I'm waiting.

No Mr Girard,
There is no budding lawyer who is going to fight your case.
The fact that these drivers allegedly broke the law does not entitle you or anyone else to do the same. Next time, if you want to sip at an excellent cappuccino at Cafe' Ole, do like the rest of us - look for a legal parking spot, park, walk to the coffee shop and enjoy your coffee. I can assure you, if you did that you would not have got fined.

the answer is simple. NO they won't fine them because nobody in this country has the guts to do that.
