I read the letter by Sandra Marino, of Buġibba, entitled Girl's Treasure Lost And Never Found (July 19).

I sent the following comment regarding this incident to the online version of the paper but I would also like it to appear in the printed version as it is more than likely that the person or persons it is aimed at will not have internet access.

I'm so sorry for the experience Ms Marino went through and the obvious loss felt by her daughter. I know the vast majority of Maltese people will feel absolutely disgusted by this as they are on the whole honest and friendly people.

The only thing of any value to these thieves is the little girl's phone and even then they would never get anything like the full value.

Can I, therefore, make a suggestion to whoever knows the whereabouts of this child's possessions. Please take them to the offices of The Times or to any police station.

You can say that you found them somewhere and remembered reading the story in the paper. The police can contact me through The Times and I will send you a reward of €50.

I don't live in Malta, I live in Ireland, but I visit every year for a holiday in Gozo.

If there is anything the little girl would like from Ireland, Ms Marino can get my contact details from The Times and I will send her something.

Hopefully, someone will find it in his or her heart to end this child's distress.
