The cycling season came to an end earlier this month with the typical season-ender hillclimb at Ta' Penellu, Mellieħa. It's the shortest, but by far, the hardest effort of the season.
Road race champion Bonello, of Team Greens, was the fastest rider up in 3'49". He was followed by Mosta AF Sign Studio's Adrian Sciberras in 3'54".
Melita Pedal Power rider, Maurice Formosa, was third in 3'56".
An impressive result was also recorded by junior Christian Formosa, of Melita. He had a timing of 3'54" and was followed home by Andre Abela (Mosta) in 4'53".
Spiteri (Team Greens) was the first rider in the women's category in 5'41". She was followed by Marie Claire Aquilina (Mosta) in 7'16" despite a chain problem.
Brian Magri (Team Greens) had the best climb among the Masters in 4'19". Michael Lia (Mosta) was second in 4'39" and Cliff Micallef (Qormi Kia) third in 4'54".
Emanuel Bezzina was the first in the 50-plus category (5'05") ahead of Anthony Borg (Qormi, 5'29") and Mario Brincat (Mosta, 5'40").
James Dimech (Mosta) showed his climbing style in the U-15 category with a timing of 4'22". Daniel Borg (Mosta) was second in 5'22" and Max Micallef (Qormi) third in 5'42".
