An evening walk at Buġibba seafront on July 7 with two of my grandchildren ended up with their having a sleepless night.
At one point, I noticed an elderly lady arguing with a middle-aged man owner of a big dog. It was about a cat, which was lying bleeding beneath the pavement. The lady was insisting that the cat was a victim of the dog and that he (the owner) should not leave it to wander about without a lead. Besides calling the lady all sorts of names, the man denied any sort of blame saying that the cat was hit by a car. Onlookers, who included also foreign students, were crying their hearts out, confirming that the dog had savagely bitten the cat.
Since I was not on the scene when the accident happened, I do not know exactly whose fault it is, however, I feel that dogs of a bigger breed should not be left to wander about without a lead especially in frequented areas.
This time the victim was a cat. It could have easily been a child!
