The newly reconstituted Malta-EU Steering and Committee (MEUSAC) will be based on three sections concentrating on consultation, information and research, and EU opportunities, including funding, the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue, Chris Said, said this morning.
The new organisation will have an overall steering committee to coordinate its activities as well as a core group which will include representatives of all the political parties, the main social partners, three representatives of NGOs and representatives of various ministries. Dr Said said the new MEUSAC would build on the success achieved by the original MEUSAC and the Malta Information Centre (MIC) in the run-up to EU accession and will also absorb the Forum Malta fl-Ewropa.
It will be the vehicle for ongoing consultation and debate on all matters related to the EU.
The core group will have sub-committees dealing with economic and financial affairs, justice and home affairs, the environment, social policy, health and consumer afairs, competitiveness transport, telecommunications and energy, agriculture and fisheries, education, culture and youth, as well as general affairs. The committees will be set up by the end of September.
