MEPA audit office needs to be rebuilt - MLP
The opposition spokesman on MEPA, Roderick Galdes, has called on the government to rebuild the Office of the MEPA auditor.
Mr Galdes noted that according to information given in Parliament, between October 2007 and last month, the auditor completed 19 reports and 12 investigations were ongoing.
“This is a minimal number. This office had been left without the tools to counter abuse and investigate the procedures adopted by MEPA, Mr Galdes said.

@P. Muscat
What are you sighing for? The MEPA audit officer, Prof. Joe Falzon, has been through some tantrums that would have been more likely to have occurred in Zimbabwe than a European Union member state. When his office was investigating the procedures adhered to during the application for the demolition and expansion of the Sant Antnin Waste Plant, he had his investigating officer Carmel Cacopardo facing obstacles higher than Mount Ararat, and later on his own secretary withdrawn from clerical duties.
The lack of credibility that MEPA has with the Maltese people (vide Qui Si Sana, Mistra Village re-development and soon the Gozo Airstrip development that shall in the next weeks awaken like the phoenix) is substainiated by the evident level of discouragement meted out on the Auditor's Office in order to hinder an efficient and fair processing leading to the publication of reports that are, after all, an intrinsic base for safeguarding transparent planning decisions.
So do you have an alternative to all this? If so, please spell it out so the MEPA audit office take note.

@P. Muscat - the answer is in the last sentence mate -TOOLS such as manpower as in Perit Cacopardo - such as an efficient and effective internal audit system.
