Cypriot minister discusses joint opening of embassies with Malta
The Cypriot Foreign Minister, Markos Kyprianou, is having talks in Malta with Foreign Minister Tonio Borg on the opening, jointly by the two countries, of an embassy in Ramallah. Malta will also share the Cypriot embassy in Tel Aviv.
The two foreign ministers are also discussing other matters of mutual interest, including the location of the secretariat of the new Mediterranean Union – which Malta, Tunisia, France, Spain and Morocco - have shown an interest in.
The setting up of the embassies in Ramallah and Tel Aviv is part of a programme to extend the reach of the Maltese diplomatic service.
The Cypriot Minister will also make a courtesy call on President Eddie Fenech Adami.
Malta last month also reached agreement with Spain through which Malta will be able to assign a diplomatic officer to work in any Spanish embassy around the world. The first such posting will be to the Spanish embassy in Belgrade, informed sources said.
The Maltese officer will help in the processing of visas and be of assistance to any Maltese needing help.

@Minister Tonio Borg: Before we open more Embassies. Can we PLEASE hire a Maltese speaking secretary in our Malta mission in New York. The excuse is we can't afford a Maltese speaking secretary. Even though we own a $10,.000,000 penthouse. If there is a Maltese out there who wants to come to USA for a short time to work for our Embassy, call Tonio Borg and tell him. That the Maltese in New York needs someone who speaks Maltese.
