Charity scuba diving activity breaks two records

Atlam Sub Aqua Club held its 10th scuba diving open day in aid of Dar tal-Providenza at Qawra Point, attracting a record number of participants - 298 - and raising a record amount of money.

When the event ended at 5 p.m., the organisers estimated they raised about €3,000, adding that they had never seen more than 200 participants at their annual event.

The activity offered the public the chance to experience diving while helping a charitable cause by paying €10 to participate.

The adventurous first-time divers were taught the necessary skills by qualified instructors and 15-minute dives were carried out in small groups of four at a depth of three metres, with participants being given a try-a-dive certificate at the end of their experience.
