Well done to the organisers of The Malta Arts Festival 2008 for such a varied programme.
No fewer than 26 perfor-mances, including 225 artists, were incorporated in the programme.
It was very disappointing, however, to note that although there was such a variety of artists and events, poetry in any form and language was excluded. As stated by the minister, culture should include all kinds of talent from all the members of society to be enjoyed by all.
I am well aware that poetry is less appreciated by the public. However, poetry is a direct art which comes straight from the heart, and, in the light of The Maltese Poets' Association's events, I can vouch for a high standard of local poets.
They not only write in Maltese, but also in English, French and Italian.
Many have brought honour to Malta by presenting their works abroad. I look forward to see more inclusivity in cultural festivals.
