It was good news to read in The Sunday Times (June 29) that Emvin Cremona's original paintings at Ta' Pinu Sanctuary, which we read have been abandoned for quite a number of years and consequently started to deteriorate, are being restored. Thanks go to Bank of Valletta, which funded the project, as well as Godwin Cutajar who, very ably, carried out the restoration.

Apart from Cremona's paintings, my father, the late Joseph Briffa of Birkirkara, also painted 12 episodes in the life of The Blessed Virgin at Ta' Pinu from 1948 to 1952. Unfortunately, my father's paintings were also left in a secluded damp or humid place and are now deteriorating.

His works need urgent attention and restoration as well so that, in the not too distant future, they can also be admired.
