Another five charged over strike incidents

Four bus drivers and a ticket inspector were yesterday remanded in custody after they were charged in connection with incidents that occurred during the transport strike earlier this week.

Bus drivers Silvio Borg, 39, Paul Cardona, 31, George Psaila, 42, all of Mellieħa and Dennis Desira, 38, of Buġibba and his son Wayne, an 18-year-old ticket inspector, pleaded not guilty to charges related to forming part of a group of people with the intention of committing a crime at Pinto Wharf on Tuesday.

Mr Cardona was accused of using a bus to block the passage of traffic.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Lawrence Quintano, denied them bail and they were remanded in custody.

Police inspectors Anthony Portelli and James Grech prosecuted.

Lawyers David Gatt and Adrian Camilleri were defence counsel.
