Tourism bookings 'halved' during strike
Air Malta said today that during the public transport strike it immediately observed a slowdown in bookings and demand during the last four days was halved.
The airline welcomed the end of the strike, saying in a statement that it was expecting that the booking situation would return to normal levels.
The airline said that during the strike it assisted a number of passengers booked on low cost and other airlines who missed their flights due to the blockage of roads.
"In line with its policy of social commitment to Malta, Air Malta, as the national airline, gave these passengers free tickets to enable them to continue their journey and minimise their discomfort," Air Malta said.
It thanked all those persons and organisations who helped out to return the situation to normal.

Do three days reflect what will happen to bookings in 365 days? Is this defeatism?
The P.N. is an expert. Unless everything runs on ball rays not only the party panics but quickly finds a scapegoat to hide its incompetence.

I'd like to thank and congratulate Airmalta for their priceless support to our most treasured sector during these 4 days of mayhem! Their unceasing service to our country makes them stand out amongst their competitors, and proves they are unique in their social commitment to our nation. Despite the tough environment which airlines are currently facing, Airmalta put our country's interest before it's own! Welldone once again, and keep it up! This week has shown us who the true saviours of Malta are!!

What do you mean Mr. catania - the least they could have done? Did you read the article well? The gave free tickets to passengers who were travelling with other airline?
The least they could have done pff!

That's the least that Air-Malta could have done. But good job Air-Malta.

'Prosit' to Airmalta for having helped Malta save face after the disgraceful behaviour of a violent few. Many other airlines would just have taken advantage of the situation to grab some extra cash.
Well done!

Well done to KM!!! I wonder what pro-Ryanair supporters have to say about "the national airline social commitment" to safeguard the Maltese tourism from a clear collapse!

Nice to see that Air Malta helped these passengers. Would be interesting to see why the low cost airlines didn't (silly question) and whether Air Malta can claim damages for lost sales to the transport federation.

And where were the "saviours" of Maltese tourism the likes of Ryanair et al?
