Due respect to others

Last Sunday, I was very much taken aback when I heard fireworks (and quite strong ones too) going off from the Msida area. I don't know what parish they belonged to but they were surely close to the hospital. I wonder what joys the patients feel on hearing such explosions going off outside their windows, especially those who are in severe pain!

I don't know how things proceed in this island but perhaps those responsible for the fireworks are preparing to organise a visit to patients to offer them their moral support in view of their increase in discomfort because of a village feast!

Isn't it about time that what happens in Malta is determined by respect for others and by proper laws?

I find no conceivable excuse for the government to let such explosions occur close to hospital or to consider closing arterial roads leading to hospital so as to give permission to set off fireworks - unless, of course, we're reverting back to the laws of the jungle where the stronger just tramples over the weaker.

I hope prospects are slightly better for Malta, although sometimes one has sufficient reason to doubt this!
