On returning from a short holiday in France and Italy, I realised that while driving there, I could not help noticing the lack of black smoke belching out of cars and buses.

In the entire 10 days of driving, I only saw one example of a polluting truck (and felt I was back in Malta).

You realise you have become conditioned to experiencing smoking vehicles when you are driving down a road thinking: What is wrong with this picture? It was the lack of pollution.

It is clear that the rest of Europe does not tolerate or accept the pollution and health hazards that we experience on this island.

Malta should stop shrugging its shoulders and start accepting the fact that it is no longer acceptable to pollute the environment and our lungs.
