A recent editorial in the opposition-leaning newspaper l-orizzont appealed to both sides of the political divide to come together and discuss the scourge of illegal immigration.
Rightly so, as this is a national problem that is well over and above party politics. The arrivals are no longer few and sporadic but have become premeditated, regular and populous. The Prime Minister's labelling of the landings being an invasion is almost an understatement.
It is already very late to tackle the problem thanks to endless procrastination waiting for the European 7th Cavalry to show up. It seems that everyone is waking up to the fact that this is in fact a Maltese problem that warrants a Maltese solution.
Meanwhile, can someone in authority confirm or deny rumours that the Italians are conniving to land as many illegal immigrants on our soil rather than theirs?
