With reference to the letters on July 9 I have to add some points.

Here in San Ġwann the situation is getting worse from day to day. The skips are overflowing and when they come to empty them they leave all the rubbish around the skips behind and in Triq il-Baħar l-Iswed the skips and the field behind are a little "Mount Magħtab". I reported the matter to the local council but nothing happened. So I reported it to the Health Department but, again, no action was taken notwithstanding the fact that they wrote to the council.

No street cleaning at all is done here and even when weeds are removed, which happens only very rarely, they leave it for the wind to take care of!

Rats are running around during the day, a dead cat lies next to the skip for a long time, even if now only fur and bones are left, all sorts of rubbish, building rubble and disused TV sets etc. are strewn all over. Somebody even dropped half a turkey next to the skips.

I don't understand it.

When I tried to get an explanation and ask my Maltese friends how it is possible that there is such a big difference between Swieqi, just down the road, and San Ġwann, they explained me that the San Ġwann local council is Labour-led...
