A qualifying round from the men's European Championships was played recently at the Cottonera Sports Complex. The national teams taking part were Scotland, Iceland, Cyprus and Malta. After some tight competition, it was Cyprus who emerged winners ahead of Iceland. Both teams qualified for the next round of the championship. In one of the most hard-fought games of the tournament, Cyprus had to rely on all their experience to beat the Maltese team 3-1. The locals returned to international competition after a lapse of several months. Robert Balzan, Jonathan Chetcuti and Paul Testa were the pick of the Maltese national team.
