It was very sad to read the lament from the reader who missed watching the recent thrilling Wimbledon final and had to tune in on radio. May I suggest a possible solution for him. Three or four years ago Lidl (UK) offered an amazing package: a satellite dish (29"), tuner, and receiver for about £60.
Having invested in the complete set, brought it to our flat in Malta, fixed it up (with some discouraging comments from a local technician who suggested the dish was far too small to receive any signals from Astra 2), we have enjoyed perfect reception of several channels from at least three of the major transmitting satellites. Not only were we able to watch the recent amazing men's final, but the entire tournament "live" from Wimbledon.
And for much of the tournament there were several matches being transmitted simultaneously - something to do with "digital interactive"! And all free!
But the real bonus of this contraption is that we can also tune into crystal clear stereo reception (all day and night) of all the BBC (UK) national radio programmes, and so very soon, we will be able to hear the nightly live relay of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall (some televised) while enjoying spectacular views of Mellieħa Bay. What paradise!
