Champions Neptunes Vodafone have been dealt a hard blow in their bid to retain this year's waterpolo league title as their top-scorer Steve Camilleri incurred an injury when scoring the last of his five goals against San Ġiljan on Saturday.

With only seconds remaining in that match he was forced to leave the water holding his right hand.

Later it was revealed that he dislocated one of his fingers.

After recently missing the services of Niki Lanzon for a number of matches, Neptunes will now have to do without their star player for the rest of the season, probably. It is expected that it will be six weeks before Camilleri can play again.

By that time he will be leaving Malta to turn out for his new Italian top division team, Bogliasco, for whom he signed recently.
