Offers on home loans

All HSBC customers who take up a home loan before August 2 will enjoy a number of special offers.

These are a repayment holiday for the first three months, a 50 per cent discount on the processing fee, free property insurance for the first year, free one-month life cover on level term policies, a free classic credit card with no interest for one year on purchases and a Flexicredit loan with no interest for the first year.

Customers taking Maxicredit loans during the summer offer period will also benefit from all the offers excluding that on Flexicredit.

Home loan customers will also automatically take part in a competition in which Samsung prizes, made available courtesy of Sound Machine Ltd, are up for grabs.

The first prize is a 46-inch LCD TV with a wireless home theatre system, the second prize consists of a home appliances bundle, including a fridge, washing machine and microwave and the third prize is an 18,000 BTU air conditioner.

There are also seven Samsung video cameras or mobile phones for winners of the fourth to 10th prizes.

Film nights in Attard

Alernattiva Demokratika will be holding Film Nights at the Old Railway Station Garden, Attard on July 18 and 19 at 8.30 p.m.

Two Pedro Almodovar films will be screened: Bad Education (18) - an examination of the effect of Franco-era religious schooling and sexual abuse on the lives of two long- time friends - on Friday and Live Flesh (18) on Saturday. Pizza delivery man Victor is having an argument with Elena, whom he met a few days before, but she was high then and doesn't want to hear about him. Reacting to the noise, two cops, young David and older Sancho, arrive at the scene, the gun accidentally goes off. Four years later David is a wheelchair basketball star; he's married to Elena, Victor is released from prison and their destinies begin to cross again.

Admission is free.

AD thanked the Attard local council for permission to use the garden for the event.

Emirates sponsorship

Emirates Airline is again sponsoring the Travel Journalism Award category organised by the Institute of Maltese Journalists.

The prize will consist of a €350 cash award together with a trophy. In addition, Emirates Airline is offering two return tickets to Dubai, including three nights' accommodation in a four-star hotel.

Last year, Emirates awarded the Best Overseas Assignment to Alvin Scicluna for three entries broadcast on TVM.

This year, Emirates is celebrating the 10th anniversary since it started operating flights to Malta.

Crossroads Festival

Those interested in participating in the Crossroads Festival - The Islands Of Europe Project should send one of the cultural certificates of the Maltese islands' traditional and national identities, such as art, a record and video clip, to the festival's secretariat until July 25.
