At long last the persons nominated for appointment as Auditor General and Deputy Auditor General have reportedly received the blessing of the new leader of the party in opposition. Still, one cannot but wonder why such a matter should have been so botched and allowed to drag on for so long - for years in the case of the Deputy Auditor General - when the Constitution is so explicit.
Besides, even if both parties have reached agreement on this matter, it would, presumably, still be necessary for the House of Representatives to regularise the extension of the retiring Auditor General's tenure of office beyond the constitutional mandate once no provision for such extension exists in the Constitution.
