AD welcome Muscat remarks on party funding
Arnold Cassola, chairman of Alternattiva Demokratika (AD), has welcomed a remark by Joseph Muscat that all parties should be involved in talks on party financing.
Dr Cassola said this was a “strong gesture of political maturity”.
"Indeed, all political parties, as well as civil society, should be directly involved also in the talks on a new electoral system for Malta," said Dr Cassola.
Stephen Cachia, AD’s deputy chairman, also welcomed the Dr Muscat’s speech. He said that this manner of rising above partisan politics was a very positive step, particularly due to the fact that it is gave credit to the positive contribution AD had given over the years to the political development of this country.
Mr Cachia augured that the Nationalist Party would also show such political maturity and start discussions among all political parties about such an important issue.

When donors are actually donors - i.e. they expect nothing in return, and they remain unknown even the party they are financing...well & good.
However we ALL know - that this is not the case - so please roll out the names and the amounts 'donated'. Thank-you

If you were in Australia, (instead of Canada) it would have made perfect sense, since you would be following matters upside down!
The truth is that PN strategically continually conducts a nasty campaign against AD (16% threshold, Sliema-Swieqi district split), but it is even more cheeky when someone like Mr. Martinelli, tries so blatantly to turn tables.
Hopefully with party funding coming under serious scrutiny, Mr. Matinelli's beloved GonziPN's cash flows will be exposed and abuses deterred.

Does this mean that I would be paying taxes to finance political parties I disagree with?
I do NOT welcome such an attack on freedom. If I want to support a party, I contribute directly. If I don't want to finance any or the other parties, I shouldn't be forced to do so.
I hope the Nationalists don't allow this new attack on our hard-earned salaries by parties that want to be 'financed' by the 'state' - meaning they want us to forcibly give them money!

Feels like a breeze of fresh air!
AD supporting Muscat is no real surprise. After a nasty campaign by AD against anything Nationalist, AD needs to take the next step.
With so much talent they have, very much lacking in the MLP, why not be bold enough to join the MLP ?
The new acronym will be DAM(the)-LP and above the flaming torch a silhouette of AC or HV would give a new look to Labour's flag.
