Resources Minister George Pullicino officially inaugurated the refurbished offices of Eagle K-wear in Mrieħel on Wednesday.

Alex Aquilina, managing director of Eagle K-wear, gave a detailed run-down of the company's turbulent history over the past 50 years. He said the company, which exports 20 per cent of its production to the UK, is looking to tap the Euro-Med region in the next two years. It is a leader in the supply of school uniforms and makes company uniforms and sportswear even in small quantities with guarantees of continuity. The company has benefited from several funding schemes over the years, most recently from the European Union, and looks forward to new opportunities presented by the Smart City project.

Mr Pullicino announced a €33 million scheme to promote the use of clean energy technology in homes and businesses, and the introduction of the collection of used clothes at civic amenity sites (these are to be increased to five, with the fourth opened at Luqa and a fifth to open in Xewkija, Gozo, later this year). The clothes, once cleaned, will be passed on the animal welfare NGOs.

Mr Pullicino toured the new offices and the shop floor where he spoke to the company's 40 employees. Frank Aquilina, one of the three brothers who founded the company, accompanied the minister.
