KDM Group holds first GMs' meeting

General managers of seven companies within the KDM Group got together for the first general managers' meeting.

Kenneth De Martino KDM Group chief executive officer told managers this would be one of a series of bi-annual meetings as the group looked towards its 10th anniversary.

The goal of the meeting was to promote best practice among group companies, showing how each company was a best value proposition in its own field. Among the items on the agenda in the morning were the formulation of policies, leadership, communication and the group finance role.

Patrick Busuttil, general manager of the Guard and Warden Service House Ltd, gave a presentation on the local warden system.

In the afternoon, GMs and executives of the group's associate companies joined the meeting, held at the Westin Dragonara Resort Business Centre. Mr De Martino spoke of the value proposition the associate companies could benefit from and, in turn, provide to the group.

Among these, he listed HR management, recruitment, back office accounts, payroll, in-house training, media and PR services, IT services and security solutions. Many of these companies are already working on joint projects both in Malta and overseas.

Patrick Cole, general manager of KDM Resources Ltd, gave a presentation on the GM's role and the introduction of key performance indicators (KPIs). It was important for GMs to work together and promote synergies and feel comfortable working with each other.

KPIs, he said, echoed organisation goals and are not aims in themselves. They provide a context for measurable goals and lead to action. They foster communication and are a balance between efficiency, cost and quality. Finally, they should be reviewed and updated to remain relevant.

The KDM Group is involved in providing individual, group and corporate travel services, insurance brokerage, vehicle leasing, security, HR consultancy, training, recruitment and back office services. Associate companies include CT Park Ltd, G4S Security Services (Malta) Ltd, DataByte Computer Services Ltd, GlobeGround Malta Ltd. and Know Now Ltd.
