A group of 28 illegal migrants was escorted to Wied il-Buni, Birzebbuga, this morning after their boat was intercepted off Malta, the police said.

The group consisted of 22 men and six women.

Their fibre glass boat was first reported yesterday evening by a cargo ship 35 miles off Malta. It was making a steady three knots. It was subsequently intercepted by a patrol boat which found it drifting and taking in water. The boat was quickly towed to the freeport.
