Hay catches fire in Msida

Hay used as fodder was destroyed in a fire in Msida early yesterday morning.

The damage is thought to run into thousands of euros.

Police on patrol were driving by at about 1.30 a.m. when they came upon the hay, stacked in bales, on fire in a field off Sant'Andrija Street.

Personnel from the Civil Protection Department's fire section were hard pressed to control the blaze as the fire raged on again even after being apparently extinguished.

No one was injured in the incident.

The police said the cause of the fire still had to be established.
