Ford confirms details of the all-new Focus RS

Enthusiasts will get the clearest view yet of the new Focus RS at this month's British International Motor Show. Although some details may change as the car goes through its final development ahead of going on sale early next year, Ford will show off a preview of the final car. What the company has confirmed is that the car will have a 296bhp turbocharged version of the company's 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine. Also producing more than 300lb ft torque, this should be enough to power the car from 0-60mph in less than six seconds.

Like the rest of the Focus range, though, the car will be a front-wheel drive. To cope with the engine's high power output, Ford has developed an innovative front suspension system called RevoKnuckle, which works with a limited-slip differential to reduce torque steer. At the same time, the RS is lower and wider than a standard Focus, and comes with sharper steering, uprated suspension and a revised version of Ford's ESP system, which allows a sporty drive on-road, but can be turned off for track use.

New BMW 7 Series

BMW has announced details of its new fifth generation 7 Series range. The flagship model comes with a host of new technology and a list of world and BMW "firsts". It is the world's first production car with front side view camera and the world's first car with a Night Vision system with individual pedestrian recognition, which can alert the driver if it detects a person is moving into the path of the vehicle.

It is also the first BMW with Lane Change Warning and the first with speed-related Active steering.

The new 7 Series gets a new interior which includes a new iDrive central console with a 10.2-inch screen, an 8Gb hard drive which can store up to 100 albums, four-zone automatic air-conditioning - fitted as standard - and an optional rear seat ventilation system with massage function.

The new 7 Series also features BMW's EfficientDynamics providing class-leading CO2 emissions and fuel economy. There are three engines available, the 730 diesel with 245bhp and the 740 and 750 petrol engines, 326bhp and 407bhp respectively. The 730d will reach 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds and onto a top speed of 153mph, while CO2 emissions are an impressive 192g/km with a combined fuel economy of 39.2mpg.
