Long live the old roadworthy hearses
I was dismayed to read that hearses over 20 years old will no longer be issued with a licence (July 8). In the UK the final trip to the church and cemetery can be by any form of transport, the preferred being, by the majority of persons, an old hearse or even a horse-drawn carriage.
In Leicestershire, in the Midlands, the local undertaker even arranges a motorbike hearse for bikers, should it be needed. This is a modified sidecar! Although hearses are 20 years old or more, they hopefully do not have a high mileage and should be able to continue on the roads for 20 more years!

Demicoli / Gregory, don't be rude with Mr. McEntaggart: you missed his point completely.

Whatever happened to those highly decorated horse-drawn hearses we use to see ages ogo? Is it true that they have been exported ?

Frankly, I don't give a hoot what they do in England or in any part of it. It's about time we stopped making these stupid comparisons.
