The local council took action over the rusted ladder at Qawra before the letter on the matter actually appeared in the paper (July 3). Reports were submitted to the Cleansing Department weeks ago by phone. A site inspection was also carried out with the officer-in-charge, where it was agreed that the ladders had to be removed immediately and then replaced.

I urge the authorities concerned to do their utmost to replace these ladders for the safety of the several people frequenting the beaches, in order to give full service to bathers at St Paul's Bay.

It is also opportune for readers to know that, at the residents' requests, the local council has asked for more ladders and railings to be installed in various locations along the beaches in St Paul's Bay and its surroundings, for the benefit of swimmers.
