Msida club calls for talks on road closures
Committee expresses confidence in its president
The committee of the Ghaqda Melita, Banda San Guzepp of Msida this morning expressed “total confidence” in its president, Vince Azzopardi, in the wake of comments he made to The Sunday Times and a statement issued yesterday by the College of Parish Priests.
The society said that Mr Azzopardi in his phone interview with journalist Cynthia Busuttil had never intended to show disrespect to patients at Mater Dei Hospital or hospital visitors.
The society said that while sypathising with the problems faced by those wishing to let off fireworks for the feast, Mr Azzopardi had been “principally” referring to the feast celebration in the heart of Msida, which did not require the closure of many roads.
“Mr Azzopardi believes that, as in the past, discussion round a table will achieve solutions for everyone’s benefit and the people of Msida will be able to enjoy their feast quietly and in a Christian spirit,” the society said.

To all the committee of the Gh. Melita B. San Guzepp:-
Discuss whatever you want round your table and please keep your
' BUM BUM ' for yourselves and let us pass from the Regional
Road because that was built by the government for the use of all
the Maltese people and not for your convenience.
Finally I want to ask you a couple of questions:-
What about those people living at Swatar?
What is the distance between the dwellings at the top and the place
from where the petards are let off? The same distance from the
main road?
I think 'San Guzepp' is not so happy because his 'Madonna and Gesu'
are not included in this kind of 'TBAHRID'.
SHAME ON ALL THOSE WHO ISSUE THIS KIND OF PERMIT
Well done to the Superintendent of Mater Dei Hospital for bringing this
issue to the attention of everyone. KEEP IT UP

'discussion round a table' - i wonder who will be representing the people who find the noise of the petards extremely irritating and intrusive. i also wonder what sort of solution is available for those sick people in hospital who have to suffer through the banging of the petards.

If I am not mistaken, all the discussions in the 'past' amounted to nothing because the solutions that were achieved "for everyone's benefit" were always the same - the roads were closed !

Although I am not a lover of feasts, I have no problem with other people enjoying them. What I do have a problem with are the deafening and useless petards which are let of from right beneath my house in Swatar, which believe me, are unbearable. I also have a problem with either being locked in or locked out of my house because of all the congestion caused by closing roads for the sake of this noise. Finally, I have a problem with arrogance such as that shown by the band club president. When are some people going to learn to respect the basic rights of others such as the right not to be exposed to meaningless noise pollution.

this vote of confidence say a lot for the the committee then !!! i am sure that their president's main intention is to celebrate the feast in a christian manner when he is more interested in letting off petards then providing direct access to Malta's only hospital

If all the band club presidents of Malta are of the same breed as Vince Azzopardi, no wonder feasts are celebrated so arrogantly with no respect at all.

@ R.A. Cauchi: The catholic church does not believe that two wrongs make a right and thus it does not believe that arrogance should be answered with arrogance.
It would be very erroneous to say the least that the church cancels external celebrations just because of the comments expressed by the president of a band club. After all this feast is celebrated in honour of St. Joseph and not in honour of the band club.
And also by analysing certain comments it can be seen that these were sent by persons who for some reason or another hate Maltese traditional feasts. These persons have all their right to hate feasts but they must accept that what they hate is enjoyed by others.
Now it happens that a Maltese external feast is made up of three main components: decorations, band marches and fireworks. Without any one of these, the Maltese feast would loose a significant part of its substance. Thus it makes no sense to ban a particular component of the feast.
It's by constructive discussion and not through harsh comments that compromises appealing to all people of goodwill can be reached. And this applies to everyone, even to festa lovers.

Dear Mr. Azzopardi, in view that you are presenting yourself as president of the Msida Band Club could you kindly enlighten us of your involvement in fireworks since the band club only organises band marches during the village feast ? Don't you think you are totally out of order on the matter ? How can your committee give you confidence on a matter not connected to the band club. Msida has 3 committees - Melita Band Club, Street Decorators and the Fireworks group all of which work independantely.
Is it true that all this panic and tension on the festa is being generated from a person not involved in the collection of monies for fireworks, in the manufacturing or setting off of fireworks and simply lead your band round Msida streets? I think you should keep put and leave the firework guys handle the matter, possible in the best interest of all.

So first you pass arrogant remarks and show total disrespect to others and now you expect to discuss things?
Why do we have to tolerate this nonsense anymore?
Are we now producing silent petards? - Quietly - HA HA HA - good joke

“Mr Azzopardi believes that, as in the past, discussion round a table will achieve solutions for everyone’s benefit and the people of Msida will be able to enjoy their feast quietly and in a Christian spirit,” the society said.
How can we enjoy a feast quietly when petards are let off that serve no purpose except to cause discomfort to everyone in the vicinity.
The Msida band club should not be allowed to partake in the feast with such a disgusting show of arrogance.
A shame indeed

Arrogance should be answered with arrogance.
The church authorities should halt the external celebrations

I like the statement, 'the people of Msida will be able to enjoy their feast quietly' best of all.
And the article is discussing the letting off, of fireworks? Something doesn't quite add up, does it?

Shame on the Committee for expressing confidence in their arrogant and irresponsible President.
As they say, birds of the same feather flock together.
