Three Somalis were injured, one of them seriously, in a fight at the Ħal Far detention centre late on Tuesday. The police said that the badly-injured man was suffering from a wound in his chest, probably made by a pointed weapon. On being admitted to hospital, the man was found to be in danger of dying but his condition improved after a medical intervention.
The police said they were informed at about 11 p.m. that at Ħal Far detention centre some persons were injured in a fight.
Preliminary investigations indicated that an argument between some Somalis developed into a violent fight in which the three men were injured. Apart from the man who was suffering a stab wound, there was another Somali who was suffering from a head injury. The police said that, later on, the investigating officers found another injured Somali close by. The man, who was suffering from injuries to his face, refused medical treatment when he was taken to Mater Dei Hospital with the other two.
