Old trees damaged by placards
Recently somebody decided to advertise the Malta Trade Fair at Ta' Qali by illegally nailing placards/notices to the trunks of six mature pine (Pinus Halipensis) trees sited on the main road to Rabat just before the turning leading to the event's Ta' Qali venue - three trees on the road from Rabat to Ta' Qali and another three from Attard to Ta' Qali.
Immediately we were advised of this sad occurrence we ordered our personnel to remove these notices, which we now hold at Wied Inċita.
The damage to these old trees is very significant given that the nail holes will make these already stressed trees very susceptible to disease and insect entry - a possible fatal condition which would unfortunately only become obvious in a couple of years' time. We would like to bring to general notice the fact that while condemning what essentially is a vandalistic act by irresponsible people, ELC has instructed its lawyers to pursue all possible avenues not only to bring the offenders to justice, but also to hold them responsible for present and future damages.

No problem at all . . . what are the placards advertising?? The International Fair of Malta?? So slap a 200 Euro fine on them for each tree that has been damaged with an illegal placard. It doesn't matter who actually put them up, the responsibility must be borne by the entity or person being advertised!

Lamentable as it is that someone should vandalise these trees for the sake of a trade fair, take a tour round the Ta' Qali and Attard areas to see what else the trade fair gave us; mountains of litter discarded by morons who are too lazy to take it home with them. There is a field at the end of Pitkali Road, going towards the trade fair that is nearly covered with empty plastic bottles. What is wrong with these people? Does their elevator not quite make it to the top floor???

Don't worry Mr Cuschieri, in a few years time these trees will be gone to make way for a petrol station, supermarket, a hotel or a disco. All covered by a permit of course.
