Malta-Ukraine sign cooperation agreements

President Eddie Fenech Adami,currently on a state visit to Ukraine, today had talks with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko in Kiev.

President Yushchenko said the talks were an opportunity to strengthen friendship and trade exchanges between the two countries between both countries. He looked forward to agreements on education, culture, science and technology, investment guarantees and double taxation. Other subjects discussed today were visa facilitation and cultural exchanges.

President Fenech Adami said there were several areas where cooperation between the two countries could flourish, including financial services, pharmaceutical industry and tourism, particularly the teaching of English to foreign students.

At the end of the talks agreements were signed on cooperation in law anforcement and tourism. The agreements were signed by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Ogryzko.

Later President Fenech Adami and President Yushchenko laid flowers at the monument in Mykhailivska Square commemorating the Victims of the 1932 and 1933 Great Famine (Holdomor) in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoskenk will call on President Fenech Adami for talks, this evening.
