Two permanent secretaries will be appointed Auditor General and Deputy Auditor General, sources close to the government said yesterday.

Anthony Mifsud, permanent secretary at the Resources and Rural Affairs Ministry, has been named as the new Auditor-General. Charles Deguara, permanent secretary at the Justice and Home Affairs Ministry, will be his deputy.

Both were nominated by the Prime Minister about a year ago and their nomination was proposed again in a letter that Dr Gonzi sent to the new leader of the Malta Labour Party, Joseph Muscat.

Dr Muscat informed the Prime Minister yesterday that the MLP agreed with the nominations.
