First microlight flight to Gozo in July 2000
With reference to the article Microlight Aircraft Make First Landings On Gozo Airstrip (June 26), please note that this article is completely incorrect. I take no pleasure in blowing my own trumpet, but I feel that the record should be put straight.
The flight as described in the article was not at all historic, unique or a pioneering event. I, the original owner of 9H-UMA Polaris Cross Country as illustrated in the article, made the first flight from Ta' Qali to the heliport in Gozo way back on July 31, 2000 on a very windy (15knots) evening. The purpose of this flight and consecutive flights was to carry out ozone sampling for the University of Malta (Gozo). During these flights I flew to an altitude of 5600 feet.
I carried out further flights commencing on September 6, that same year.
I also carried out previous and post flights to Gozo, mostly landing at the race course or carrying out "touch and goes" at Tal-Jordan race course.

Yes folks, that's right... I am afraid to say that John claims the right to be the first to have made that crossing and landing on Gozo! Perhaps the Times should insert an amendment to the article printed please as a special courtesy and without prejudice? Hey John... time you did a Malta/Sicily crossing?! But take it from me...don't do it on a windsurfer!
