Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman gave birth on Monday to her first biological child, a daughter named Sunday fathered by her husband and country music star Keith Urban (picture).

"Earlier this morning, Nic gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban," the New Zealand-born, Australian-bred Grammy winner announced on his Web site.

Nickelback latest to join Live Nation in global deal

Canadian rock band Nickelback has signed a global recording, touring and merchandising deal with concert promoter Live Nation <LYV.N>, the company said on Tuesday. Financial details were not disclosed but an industry source familiar with the talks said the deal was worth between $50 million to $70 million.

Village People singer has surgery on vocal cords

Victor Willis, the original lead singer of disco-era band Village People, underwent surgery at a San Diego hospital on Monday to remove nodules from his vocal cords, his spokeswoman said. The surgery has forced Willis, who wrote hits such as "Y.M.C.A" and "Macho Man," to cancel a U.S. tour, but his spokeswoman said he is expected to recover fully and a new tour could begin as soon as October of this year.

Annette Bening named to movie academy board

Three-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening has been elected to the governing board of the organization that gives out Hollywood's highest film honors, the Academy Awards, the group said on Monday. Bening, 50, who is married to actor Warren Beatty, will now join the 43-member Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which draws up the rules and regulations for the Academy Awards, or Oscars.

Osbournes head back to TV as variety show hosts

British rocker Ozzy Osbourne and his raucous family -- former stars of MTV -- are headed back to U.S. television as hosts of a prime-time variety hour in the works for the Fox network. No precise air date has been set. But a spokesman for the News Corp-owned broadcaster said on Monday the show, featuring musical performances and comedy sketches, is planned for sometime in the upcoming 2008-2009 season.

Ringo Starr has "peace and love" birthday

Ringo Starr held a "peace and love" fest on a rainy Chicago sidewalk to mark his 68th birthday on Monday. "What could be wrong? Peace and Love. What a great birthday gift," the former Beatle said. "It's a happening." The event, which had sparse advance publicity, drew about 200 people on both sides of a street outside the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago.

Authors get rock-star treatment at Brazil festival

Paulo Cavalcante rode buses for 46 hours from the dusty Brazil northeast to this coastal town for the chance to rub literary shoulders with British dramatist Tom Stoppard and other famous writers. "This is magnificent," said the 47-year-old professor, who was selling copies of his debut book, a romance novel, to passers-by in the coastal town of Paraty. "People where I'm from don't read much because of low income and poor education."
