During my travels to Malta, my wife and I were amazed at the lack of safeguards on building sites. We can't even imagine how the overhead cranes are allowed to operate in the way they do. Is it profit that leads one to neglect? Remember Rome wasn't built in a day! What would a developer do if one personally experiences an actual workplace accident? Where are the organisations that monitor work sites for safety, if it exists. It is better for developers, as corporate citizens, to lead by example and show concern for its workforce, rather than be forced into compensation. In Australia, the builder would be in the poo!! Worksite shut down, investigations and unions all over the place and then there is the bad publicity. It is on the radio and on the evening news! We are now in 2008 so please lets adopt a better work practice. There is no excuse and this includes all politicians. Stand up and protect your fellow brother. They all have families and they want to go home at the end of the day to their loved ones!

Well it seems that if we hear of some animals being harmed we go nuts . workers are harmed each day and we are doing little . to start with falls (i have wrote an article on this paper last year, still nothing done to help and reduce falls . Yet again WHO CARES??
I just ask - you out there ,are paying for there recovery so at least by saying this you shold care.
Managers and the like are just playing with time if H/S is not taken seriously TtHEY SHOULD ALL ACT LIKE THE FATHERS IN A GOOD FAMILY.
Finally reading this paper ,there was a very stupid advert yesterday with clowns making unsafe acts on a fork lift truck - forklifter???

Occupational Healh and Safety needs to be looked into by all Employers as Incidents and accidents are on the increase.

Safety on the long run can save lives and money.

Employers should start to make arrangements in implementing health and safety measures by:
Identified risks / hazard as necessary by risk assessment;
Appoint competent people (often themselves or company colleagues) to help them to implement the arrangements;
Set up emergency procedures;
Provide clear information and training to employees;
Work together with other employers sharing the same workplace.

What the law requires in Malta is that good management and common sense would
lead employers to do anyway: that is, to look at what the risks are and take
sensible measures to tackle them.
