Politics of the old school still alive

Recently I was struck by an unclaimed article published on the Labour media.

This article started by stating: "The Malta Labour Party has an English name because it was born at the Royal Naval Dockyards Malta. At the same time the Partito Nazionalista was publishing its party paper called La Patria in Italian, with financial aid from Mussolini. Once a fascist always a fascist."

We have certainly all seen and heard new Labour leader Joseph Muscat promise a new start to the way Labour does politics.

We have certainly all seen and heard Dr Muscat claim that the Labour Party is going to open its doors to all; that it shall be a party that shall embrace people of all political creeds.

Yet his words were not even a month old when the Labour media chose to publish an article calling anyone with sympathies for the Nationalist Party a fascist. And for those who have observed the Maltese political scene for quite some time they would surely know that this insult being hurled at the PN by Labour is hardly new or innovative.

Does Labour honestly believe that by publishing articles debating Malta in the war days it is going to inspire anyone? Is this the new way forward? Is this the way the new Ġenerazzjoni Rebbieħa (winning generation) shall do politics? I certainly hope that these kinds of unfair attacks whose only intent is to spread the politics of hate will end once and for all.

Indeed, ending such practices would be beneficial not only to Labour itself but to Malta as a whole.

Dear Mr. Martinelli. Hi :)

I do not see misspelt words although I may not see the beam in my eye, I who sees the splinter in my neighbor’s eye :)

You sense of humour much appreciated.

I can not understand why correspondent should work his guts out to extract some moribund statement from the backwaters of an insipid newspaper, and proceed to use it to lambaste a third party who is on a first leg to breathe some decency into Maltese politics. What purpose will it serve us all if someone where to react and take up the Irredentist nature of the NP? Let bygones be bygones and if someone should be dim enough to go that way, answer with silence.

Given the challenges that this tiny island of ours is facing, we need healers. On the other hand we need political rhetoric of the old school as much as we need a hole in the head.

Regards

Ms. Vella, thou shalt not misspell words lest ye shall be judged incompetent by my bible.
Upon ye, I shall impart my forgiveness - this time.
Ms M Vella (on 8/7/08)
If you sow the seed to healing, you have reason to rejoice in the spirit of love,

if you sow the seed of discord, may you be baptized with the spirit of reconciliation.

I wish you joy in the spirit of love.
Angelo Micallef (on 8/7/08)
Perhaps Ms. Vella would care to be a bit more clear in her arguments instead of quoting from the Bible to score political points.

Judge not and you will not be judged, condemn not and you will not be condemned; forgive and you will be forgiven. No good tree bears bad fruit nor a bad tree bears good fruit...

On these words I shall medidate but will only judge myself.
Charles Camilleri (on 8/7/08)
M. Vella even the devil can quote the bible. As for Angelo if you ever believe that labour would ever change you are mistaken. They are the same old faces with the same old policies however hard they try to use the word NEW. After all Joseph was the right hand man of A. Sant doing much of his bidding.
Joe Martinelli (on 8/7/08)
M Vella, by his reasoning, is trying to tell us that Nationalists have no right to defend themselves from Labour insults?

Then he questions Mr. Micallef whether his comments were 'meant to heal or meant to keep wounds bleeding'! Who is keeping such wounds bleeding?

To rub salt he goes on with 'The door to the ways of the Lord are always open if we approach them with humility and repentance'. Here I am not so sure whether this quote was meant for himself and his party.

What hypocricy!

The Article that Mr. Micallef mentioned in his letter is the opinion of ‘Veteran Observer’. Who wrote beyond the introduction, about the glorious past and the current shame of the Malta Dry-Docks, without making any reference to Joseph Muscat and his new way to move forward.

Unless Mr. Micallef links as well AB C or DCG views to Lawrence Gonzi way of doing politics, I ask Mr. Micallef to explain how this article has to do with Joseph Muscat?
M.Vella (on 8/7/08)
You will know the soul of a tree from its fruit. Is what Mr Micallef writes meant to heal or meant to keep wounds bleeding.

The door to the ways of the Lord are always open if we approach them with humility and repentance. Let us seek a reason of joy that glows in front of us, and let us not go seek the splinter of division in blind obscure alleys.
