Two men critical after head-on crash

Two men were in a critical condition after a head-on crash in Triq Durumblat, Mosta on Saturday night, the police said yesterday.

Trenches have been dug along part of the road and the drivers drove through the part which is marked No Entry, the police added.

The injured are the driver of the Skoda, a 48-year-old from Mosta, and a 41-year-old passenger in a Mercedes.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged. The Skoda driver had to be extracted from the wreckage by personnel from the Civil Protection Department.

I pass in front of this road every day. Only one side of the road is closed with concrete barriers. Leading up to it are several notices of a "traffic diversion ahead". There are also notices that there is no access to Triq Durumblat - but I don't remember ever seeing a street name sign anywhere in this road. Under such conditions it's not hard to imagine how someone might miss the single no-entry sign at the far side of the road.

While workers obviously need to access worksites, how about completely closing them off completely during weekends and at night?
