12 held over drugs in Luqa, Cospicua

The police yesterday held 12 people during two drug-related operations in Luqa and Cospicua. A number of those arrested are expected to be arraigned in the coming days with some of them being charged with trafficking in heroin and ecstasy pills.

The first find was made on Saturday night during a party in Luqa when six men and a woman, ranging in age between 16 and 30, were arrested for having in their possession amphetamines, ecstasy pills and cannabis resin. They hail from Marsascala, Cospicua and Senglea.

The second operation was carried out yesterday afternoon in Cospicua when a 30-year-old man and two women aged 25 and 34 were arrested after the police search in a private residence yielded objects related to the trafficking of heroin.

From the same neighbourhood, the police nabbed a 20-year-old man from Tarxien and a 16-year-old girl from Senglea who were found in possession of heroin that was to be trafficked, the police said.
