First EU interpreters accreditation test in Malta

Four new Maltese interpreters have passed European Commission (EC) and European Parliament (EP) accreditation tests (SCIC) held for the first time in Malta after a one-year course organised by the Faculty of Arts' Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies. The new interpreters will soon start work with EU institutions and will join the other 20 Maltese interpreters working in Brussels and Strasbourg.

The interpreting course was made possible through course director Prof. Joseph Eynaud's contacts with EC and EP interpreting departments officials. Peter Mifsud, acting head of the Commission's Maltese Interpreting Unit constantly monitored the course in Malta and sent expert interpreters to help in its running with the EC and EP sustaining all the costs.

The department offers full-time postgraduate day courses leading to a diploma and Masters for people wishing to study translation or interpreting with two main languages - Maltese and English - and one passive language (French, Italian, Spanish, or German).
