Bank of Valletta has planted 300 trees at six different localities around Malta.

BoV has committed to plant 50 trees in every town and village in Malta and Gozo. Since this initiative was launched last August, 800 trees have been planted in 16 localities.

"This environmental initiative is being well received by our employees, as well as by the local community," Karl Spiteri, manager for the bank's community programme, said.

"We are pleased with the strong level of co-operation being extended to us by the local councils," Mr Spiteri added.

The new localities that benefited from this initiative were Mdina, Xgħajra, Kalkara, Rabat, Swieqi and Mqabba.

In Mdina, the trees were planted at Howard Gardens, while in Swieqi, the trees were planted in the Wied Għomor Valley.

The trees in Rabat were planted at Id-Dwejra, a protected and sought after area.

At Kalkara, the trees were planted in areas surrounded by historic fortifications.

The trees being planted include olive, carob, sandarac pine, oak and aleppo pine.
