Maltese ambassadors based overseas have been summoned for a meeting in Malta where the government will outline its targets for the next five years.
The meeting, to be held on July 17 and 18, will underline the need for overseas' ambassadors to take more initiatives.
They will also be instructed on ways and means of reporting back to Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg.
The ambassadors will be given a number of presentations on a number of subjects, including Malta's perspective of illegal immigration.
Last Thursday, Dr Borg and Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos signed an agreement on the utilisation of Spanish embassies worldwide and the deployment of Maltese diplomats in these embassies. Under the agreement, Malta will extend its representation in other countries where no Maltese embassy exists.
A spokesman for the ministry said that Malta will be deploying its first official at the Spanish embassy in Serbia.
