Obituary

CACHIA. On July 2, at Mater Dei Hospital, LILIAN of Santa Luċija, aged 74, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Alfred, her brother Joe and his wife Dorothy of UK, her sisters Miriam and her husband Salvino, Margaret and her husband Paul of Australia, Monica and Richard and Patricia and her husband Thomas, her sister-in-law Mary, her brothers-in-law Edward and his wife Marie, Franky and his wife Polly and John and his wife Mary, her nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8 a.m. for St Pius X parish church, Santa Luċija, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal peace.

DEBONO. On July 3, at Dar tal-Kleru, Birkirkara, Fr GEORGE DEBONO, OSA, of Qormi, aged 79, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his brothers and sisters, Manuele and his wife Francesca, Karmenu and his wife Ġemma, Maria and Konċetta, grandchildren, his brethren of the Augustinian Order, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8.30 a.m. for St Augustine parish church, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Augustinian Mission in Brazil will be appreciated.

MICALLEF - JANE. Treasured memories of a beloved wife, mother and sister on the 17th anniversary of her demise. Fondly remembered by her husband Joseph, sons Noel and Pierre, sisters, in-laws and her nephew Anton. Today's 6 p.m. Mass at St Monica chapel, Augustinian Sisters, Mosta, will be offered for the repose of her soul and of her son Michael. Lord, grant them eternal rest.

ZAMMIT - FRANCOIS. So suddenly passed away six years ago. Very sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Therese, Mireille, Ervis, Veronique, Alan and Etienne.

Engineering, IT Students' exhibition

Some 120 projects by final-year students of the University of Malta's Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are being exhibited on campus today.

It will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The exhibits vary considerably and include novel concepts, practical software solutions, modelling of engineering problems, concrete hardware solutions, construction and testing of special equipment and collection of experimental data.

Marian music

A concert of Marian music will be held at Mdina on Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. to mark the completion of the first phase of the restoration of the church dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Mdina. Taking part in the concert will be the L'Isle Adam Band of Rabat with mezzo soprano Marie Therese Vassallo, the Marie Therese Vassallo Voice Studio chorists and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Choir of Balluta.

Din l-Art Ħelwa Anniversary dinner

Din l-Art Ħelwa will hold its 43rd anniversary dinner at San Anton Gardens on July 25 at 8 p.m.

The group Quacks, composed of Malcolm Crockford, Anthony Bernard, Antonella Bernard, James Degaetano, Mario Mifsud and Adrian Curmi Dimech will entertain guests throughout the evening.

Tickets including dinner and pre-dinner drinks cost €36 per person, inclusive of wine.

Dress code is lounge suit or smart casual (shirt and tie).

Proceeds from the evening will be dedicated to Din l-Art Ħelwa's restoration projects.

SDM Anniversary concert

The Studenti Demokristjani Maltin will hold a concert to mark their foundation 34 years ago.

The concert, which will feature the University of Malta Junior College Orchestra, will be held at L-Istazzjon in Birkirkara on July 17.

It will take place right in the middle of the EDS Summer University being hosted by SDM, which will involve around 150 students from some 28 different countries.

During the week-long event workshops discussing themes of relevance to youth and the peoples of Europe will be held.

The public is invited to attend the concert.

Public debate on rent reform

The Today Public Policy Institute will hold a public debate on the recently published White Paper on Rent Reform at the Chamber of Commerce in Valletta on Thursday at 6 p.m.

David Spiteri Gingell, advisor to Minister John Dalli on rent law reform, Therese Comodini Cachia, a lawyer with a particular interest in human and other rights and Trafford Busuttil, president of the Federation of Estate Agents will give their views on the subject. China trip winner

It's Destination China for another lucky winner on XFM!

Following weeks of mounting tension and literally hundreds of applicants, Patrick Sant was confirmed as the lucky man who will be jetting off for a two-week holiday in China courtesy of Amoy Foods and XFM.

Mr Sant was finalist number five during the Big Drive Home with Jay and Lee and found himself answering correctly and scooping the trip of a lifetime.

He and his girlfriend Stephanie Chetcuti will fly to Dubai, then on to Beijing taking in Xi-an, Guilin, Hangzhou and Shanghai, not to mention numerous trips with a personal tour guide to landmarks such as Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Terracotta Armies and, of course, the Great Wall of China!

Talk on creativity

Awareness Workshops will hold a free public talk on Discover The Magic Of Your Mind And Open New Possibilities For Life at the Coastline Hotel, Salina on Thursday at 7.30 p.m.

The talk deals with how to develop the intuitive and creative faculties of the mind.

This talk will serve as an introduction to MindScape, an experiential weekend workshop which takes place on July 12 and 13.

The speaker will be Kris Attard, a personal development trainer.
