Revealing poll on Paceville incidents
Following the shocking incidents at Paceville involving the Malta Police Force, the results of The Times poll regarding confidence in the force gives us a fair idea where The Times online readership stands.
On July 2, if one adds together the over 52 per cent who said the brutal force used did not affect them and the over seven per cent who said they could not care less, a whopping 60 per cent are convinced there was nothing wrong with beating up a man.
I sincerely hope that this is not reflective of the islands' people at large.

the poll asked ... alleged beatings of migrants affected your confidence in Force?
It could mean people have already lost confidence for whatever reason and therefore cannot be affected more negatively than that.
Then if someone wants to use the poll result to throw bad light on respondents, Maltese society in general etc ... well, that's another question.

In my opinion religion and politics have nothing to do with abuse of power, although some might think that a few comparisons exist! Although the colour of the uniform is blue I am sure that that the corps is a multi colour of beliefs politically or otherwise.
Since several Labourites contribute to this daily, why not also to this poll? Or does one imagine that those against are only labour!
By the way if there is someone waiting for the results of an investigation, what can I say, don’t hold your breath, suicide is not worth the candle.

The poll results do not surprise me at all. Many Maltese generally remain poorly educated and indifferent to most issues of wider social concern.

Dear Mr Gatt
You must have been away too long from our Island.
We never change. The police are only bad when labour is in power.
It seems that we Maltese do not have a mind of our own and let our political orientation guide our thoughts. Really sad but that is the way it is in Catholic Malta.

Most likely sensible people are waiting for the facts. as far as we know this is still under investigation. Anything triggered by a caruana galizia instinctively raises suspicion - so most will reserve judgment for the time being. others are always quick to anger, quick to judge in their zealousness to save us from ourselves...
