Balance in view on rent reform (3)

Social Policy Minister John Dalli said in Parliament that the White Paper on rent reform is based on an analysis of the relevant existing legislation, the documentation of the 1997 Rent Reform Commission, the documentation of the Rent Laws reform set up in 2005, the reforms carried out in a number of EU member states and the 2005 census statistics.

What have the reforms carried out in a number of EU member states got to do with our particular situation? Can't we solve our problems ourselves?

In order to address the reality of every single home on low rent, I have suggested ad nauseam that we should first appoint two to three qualified persons, under oath, to check out the situation of those properties, listen to the owners and tenants and come to an equitable solution, subject to appeal, which is fair to both parties.

I have repeatedly asked what is wrong with my suggestion. No one ever replied.
