Summer education programmes to be VAT exempt
Summer education programmes are to be exempt from VAT, the ministries of finance and education announced today.
Persons or institutions offering such programmes but are not licensed as a school in terms of the Education Act are to apply for a certificate of registration from the Education Quality and Standards Directorate if they wish to have fees exempt from VAT.
Programmes have to cater for children aged three to 16 during the summer aimed at providing educational development according to the national curriculum and including creativity activities for the children.
Those running such programmes must be either teachers or kindergarten assistants, university graduates, students in the Faculty of Education or the Community Services Institute at MCAST or learning support assistants and facilitators.
Application forms for registration can be collected from the customer care section of the directorate or from www.education.gov.mt. Closing date is July 25.
