PM to open wine festival
The Marsovin Summer Wine Festival will be uncorked this evening by the Prime Minister at Hastings Gardens in Valletta.
The festival will run over three days up to Sunday.
Jeremy Cassar, director of marketing, said its purpose was not only to promote genuine Maltese D.O.K. wines but also to promote the culture art, wine and food together.
Visitors will be able to taste a variety of wines. from both Maltese and Gozitan vineyards, accompanied by a selection of Mediterranean cuisine from Morocco, Malta, Italy and Spain prepared by the expert chefs of the Corinthia.
Mr Cassar said the event would promote safe drinking. He said Marsovin was doing away with the open bar philosophy. People will pay a €4 entrance fee and be offered one glass of wine. More wine and food can then be bought at the various stands.
Leading entertainers will be present throughout the festival. Opening times are between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Well done to Marsovin for having organised a phenomenal event, I attended the event on two nights and had a great time.. never in all Malta has event been to full with Quality entertainment. For the esteemed gentleman you commented on not wanting to pay to enter the festival.. well I do not know anywhere where you watch a flamenco dancer, as well as a string quartet, live bands, Spanish guitarists for 4 euros as well as getting a free wine glass, well I guess that some people have cheap tastes and do not appreciate the arts.
What's more Mr Pace Hastings is a public place but just like any when rented out one must pay for it.. I doubt very much that Marsovin were given in it for free.. yet if you wanted to you ask the Valletta local Council.... Upper Barrakka costs Lm1000 to rent per night
I have have one negative comment to say which is the price of the food.. next time the Corinthia should think reducing there prices.. 15euros for paella a little too much!!
Anyway prosit Marsovin.. pat yourself on the back because you deserve it and don;t listen to these complaints you can't satisfy everyone!

It would unjust to say that Marsovin haven't been, along with Delicata, Meridana and Camilleri Wines catalysts in investing and re-branding Maltese wines. The quality of local wines has achieved unimaginable standards due to the investment of these companies. On the other hand, I have had wine coming out of my ears in wine festivals in Cyprus and Portugal, so what's the fuss about all this? Maybe, and give them the benefit of the doubt, yes maybe, they feared that the motley crue out there, would cause mayhem and rampage if the nectar flowed for free. It's possible, yet still they need to be find a system how to acknowledge their clients...

Eur2 to Eur8 per glass PLUS Eur4 entrance fee as stated on Marsovin website!!! Guess, this is the latest posh open air public restaurant... Let's get real!!! Prefer to spend same amount of money somewhere relaxed with good parking facilities. It's an end of an era. Good that foreign imported wine is priced well for good quality. In my opinion, Marsovin should thank the Maltese people for their purchases throughout the year and keep the old tradition and let people enjoy. Shame!

I was looking forward to this event since I like wine.
paying 4 Euros including a glass of wine as an entrance fee, then pay again for a refill, No thanks, the gardens are public property.
I will buy food, I will buy a wine glass, if refills are free.
Thank you Marsovin, but i prefer attending other wine festivals in open air gardens both in Malta and Gozo, which are more value for money, and i never miss this calendar event in August.
Go and promote your products elsewhere please.

Welcome to the circus.
What a cheap gimmick.
Hastings gardens are the people's gardens and access to them should be free, what ever the event. They do not belong to Marsovin.
What it is said about the open bar policy and promote safe drinking is totally crap.
Marsovin should have come up with something more tangible and tasty then that after all it is a promotion to them and the others involved.
How the Prime Minster got involved in this makes me wonder.
To pay €4 and have a glass of wine OFFERED is an insult to the people as they are paying for that glass of wine. A bit expensive I should say!
Would the Prime Minister pay €4 for an offered glass of wine?
