AFM airlifts teenager injured in Comino

An AFM helicopter this afternoon rescued a teenager who was injured at the Blue Lagoon in Comino.

The boy, 15-year-old Hungarian Peter Kolzkza, was flown to Mater Dei Hospital in an Alouette helicopter after rescuer Lance Corporal Thadeus Dimech established that he was suffering a dislodged knee.

A helicopter would be more efficient than a boat. A boat could take them to Mġarr or Ċirkewwa, where an ambulance would have to meet it and take over. A helicopter is still the best bet in such cases.

Why does the Red Cross in Gozo teams up with MTA and other bodies to provide such a service? I know that the Red Cross in Gozo has hydro ambulance. In the past they have provided similar services in Gozo. For sure they are capable to do it... Are they being given enough support form the government?

So true what Mr. Farrugia is saying. In the days of Doctor Who we were also promised that a proper waste management system shall be introduced on Comino to minimize the ecological damage due to the massive amount of human traffic in the summer months. A stand-by sea ambulance would suffice, with so many tourist and local pleasure craft converging at Bejn il-Kmiemen (Blue Lagoon). Someone out there, roll up your sleeves and do the job.

Mr. Farrugia. At first instance my thoughts were like yours. However I do not know how painful a disloged knee is. A boat ambulance might make the person feel worse. I know you are an avid supporter of animal rights and the respect for animals that you have is commendable. May I ask you to show as much sympathy with your fellow humans.

Considering the huge number of locals and tourists who visit Comino every day during the summer months, it is a mystery to me how there isn't some sort of first-aid centre on the island. This first-aid centre could also take the form of some sort of boat-ambulance which is easily found in the bay and which would make it possible to take an injured person to the nearest hospital.
